This time, it is the turn of one of the most romantic musicians—the great Rachmaninoff, with two operas from his exclusive catalogue, inspired by Pushkin and Dante, endowed with a remarkable melodic power.

From June 11 to June 18
Reaffirming its brilliant, long-standing tradition in the field of German Opera, the Teatro Colón presents one of the most perfect titles given to the lyric art by Richard Strauss: The Woman Without a Shadow. Premiered by Erich Kleiber in 1949, then directed by Ferdinand Leitner and Marek Janowski, this piece returns in its quest to follow the path of the Great Masterpieces, with a cast leaded by international figures.

After his acclaimed 1999 Otello, our very own José Cura will complement his magnetic singing with his talented skills as régisseur and scenographer in a title that he knows by heart. Renowned international and Argentine figures will accompany him, turning into a true lyric art celebration this tribute paid to the great Verdi on the occasion of the bicentennial of his birth.

Mozart could not be left out of a season full of great names. Hence he appears with the first title of the Da Ponte trilogy. The charming story of Susanne and Figaro, the Count and the Countess, and the follies of Cherubino will amuse and move the audience in a way only the genius from Salzburg knows how to.

This season at the Teatro Colón, the choral genre makes the scene with one of the most complete orchestra and voice scores ever conceived—War Requiem, by Britten, featuring the high voices of children. Our most prominent and internationally acclaimed soloists at the command of one of the most prestigious batons of the house—all promises a deep, moving experience.

After Fedra’s success, our resident composer undertakes a new opera project based upon a text by Horacio Ferrer, the utopia to turn the world into a city. With a pinch of bandoneon, and plenty of genuine lyric art, this piece promises to deliver more of his master’s expertise and artistry to compose for voices and orchestra, building upon his vast experience as master and director of the Teatro Colón.

This lyric season will be closed by a second tribute to Giuseppe Verdi. The Fura dels Baus returns to the Teatro Colón to co-produce a rescued version of the original masked ball, destroyed by the censorship of its time due to its plot’s political realism. A renewed production commits to giving new birth to the true story known for having motivated the Italian genius to create one of his most committed, most vibrant music compositions.
