Manuel Coves


Born in Jaén (Andalusia), he studied piano, chamber music and orchestra conducting. He was also accompanist and then Musical Coordinator of Teatro de la Zarzuela (2000-2014) and has worked intensely as conductor of opera, dance and zarzuela performances. In opera he recently conducted Don Carlo at El Escorial and at Teatros del Canal, Otello at Mallorca’s Teatro Principal, La Bohème at Festival de San Lorenzo de El Escorial and at Valencia’s Palau de Les Arts, Pepita Jiménez at Teatro Argentino de La Plata, Carmen at Bogota’s Teatro Julio Mario Santo Domingo, among other works. In dance and ballet performances he conducted Sorolla with the Ballet Nacional de España at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, Carmen with the Compañia National de Danzain Caligari, El Amor Brujo with La Fura dels Baus and Messiah with the Ballet Nacional del Sodre. He has worked with the Vienna’s Tonklünster Orchestra, the symphonic orchestras of Madrid, Bilbao, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Balearic Islands and the National Theatre of Brasilia, the Orchestra of the Community of Valencia, the Orchestra of the Lyric Theatre of Cagliari, the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Malaga, the Stable Orchestra of the Argentinean Theatre, the National Orchestra of Colombia and the National Orchestra of Ecuador, among other. He has recorded under Naxos Chamber Music by R. Halffter with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, the complete Concerts for Guitar and Orchestra by Federico Moreno Torroba and La Verbena de la Paloma for Decca, among other works.
