Principal dancer at The Royal Ballet in London since 2013, after having been guest artist the previous season in the role of Odette/Odile (Swan Lake) with Carlos Acosta. Her roles in the company include leading roles in Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, La fille mal gardée, The Dream, Marguerite and Armand, Oneguin, Manon, Sylvia, Romeo and Juliet , La bayadère, among others.

She was born in Moscow. At the age of five she began to dance. At the age of eight, she entered Mikhail Lavrosky's Ballet School and between 1995 and 2004 she trained at the Moscow State Choreographic Academy. She was part of the corps de ballet of the Bolshoi Ballet, where she was promoted to principal in 2010. In 2011 she left the Bolshoi to join, also as principal, the Mikhailovsky Ballet. In parallel, she has been invited by the world's leading ballet companies and theaters. 

In 2012 she was appointed principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre, with whom she premiered the leading role in the ballet The Firebird by Alexei Ratmansky.

She received two Gold Masks for In The Upper Room in 2008 and La Sylphide in 2014; Best Dancer in 2007, 2010 and 2014 from the UK Critics Circle; Best Dancer in 2008 and 2011 from the Positano Dance Awards; and the Benois de la Danse Award in 2008.
