OPERA IN THREE ACTS (1642)
LIBRETTO GIOVANNI FRANCESCO BUSENELLO

VERSIÓN IN CONCIERT

L’incoronazione di Poppea was the first opera to leave the Italian aristocracy´s palaces to perform in a public theater. It turned out to be innovative in departing from mythological arguments and using an historical episode. From its inaugural performance in Venice, it positioned Monteverdi as the most outstanding composer of the time, by redefining the limits of theatrical music thanks to a score in which it isn´t so much about characters that embody emotional states, as of perceiving and hearing how these emotions manifest and evolve, how they move us and incite us to penetrate the baroque world.
