In 1974, the English dancer Kenneth MacMillan (1929-1992), then artistic director of the Royal Ballet of London, created a choreography about the story of Manon Lescaut, but he chose not to use the music of Massenet’s opera, but other well-known pieces of that musician. He created a grandiose ballet, featuring thrilling roles for principal dancers and for the corps de ballet as well.
This is a story of a young hero and a young heroin getting together in their innocence, with a love revealed throughout several pas de deux.
