One of the most celebrated operas of the Italian repertoire, L'elisir d'amore is a romantic comedy with which Donizetti reconquered his audience and established himself as one of the most successful composers of his generation. The plot introduces us to the naive peasant Nemorino, who tries to make his beloved, Adina, fall in love with him by means of a supposed magic elixir. The false "healer", Dr. Dulcamara, and the swaggering army sergeant, Belcore, complete the leading cast of this amusing story of mischief and love entanglements, which of course ends in a happy ending. The music, beautiful and full of nuances, includes the famous aria "Una furtiva lágrima".
