Lucia di Lammermoor

Lucia di Lammermoor

Descripción

OPERA IN THREE ACTS (1835)
Libretto in Italian by Salvatore Cammarano
Based on the novel The Bride of Lammermoor by Sir Walter Scott

Co-produced with Ópera de Tenerife and Ópera de Oviedo

This opera is considered the masterpiece of the Bergamo maestro, as well as a milestone of Italian romantic melodrama. The fact that it is mentioned in iconic novels like Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary and Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina illustrates its great fame.

Lucia, the leading character, embodies the ideal of the times: the impossible union of two lovers, adversity and fate, the struggle between two families that results in insanity and a tragic outcome on the wedding night of a marriage of convenience. It is staged once again at Teatro Colón after its last performance in 2005.
