OPERA IN THREE ACTS (1738)
Libretto in Italian by Silvio Stampiglia
New Teatro Colón production
Set in Persia, the eccentric king is more concerned about his love conquests than his land conquests. Händel’s music strikes a balance between seriousness, comedy and gallantry, carefully developing each character and providing beautiful melodies, among which we find one of his most famous arias, the celebrated Ombra mai fu. The Teatro Colón’s audience could see this opera only once: the 1971 season. However, it will now return to this stage with a distinctive feature: it will be performed by a Baroque ensemble, with the ever innovative approach of Alejandro Tantanian.
